- Hamburgers usually don’t contain ham — they’re named after Hamburg, Germany where their beef originally came from.
- The record for the biggest burger is held by Mallie’s Sports Grill & Bar, and weighs 134 pounds. You can order one for $350 with a 24-hour notice.
- The most expensive burger in the world costs $1,768 and is made up of a Wagyu beef patty, lobster, beluga caviar, venison, a duck egg, and an edible gold leaf.
- During WWI, American soldiers called hamburgers “Freedom Sandwiches” so as to avoid a connection with Germany.
- 71% of all beef served in the United States is in the form of burgers.
- In German and Dutch, “burger” means “citizen”. This leads to amazing name possibilities for restaurants, including “Burgerlijk” (meaning “civil”) or “Burgermeester” (meaning “mayor”, but implying “mayor of burgers”).
